Careers at Transcendens Law

This Is the Beginning.
Two Offices and Growing.

Most legal careers begin at a firm somebody else finished building long ago. This firm is still being built. Victoria Helgesen spent nearly a decade as General Counsel and Chief Legal Officer of large companies before founding Transcendens Law, and we are hiring the people who will build it with her. Join us now and help shape the firm, its growth, and its brand.

Why Join Us

The Case for Working Here

A career needs three things: someone to learn from, work that keeps you sharp, and room to rise.

Learn From a General Counsel

Victoria began at Holland & Knight, went on to build and lead legal departments at large companies, and has mentored dozens of attorneys and paralegals. From her you learn how a deal comes together, how to prepare for a regulator, how a legal department runs, and how to stay steady when a matter turns hard. Those lessons stay with you for your whole career.

Work That Keeps You Sharp

Company sales and franchise agreements. Commercial contracts and business disputes. Real estate, estate plans, and family farms passing to the next generation. Our practice runs from the boardroom to the back forty. Each new type of matter adds a skill you did not have before. The work does not go stale, and someone who can handle that range is hard to replace.

Getting In Early

The people who join a firm first are the ones who build its systems, train the people who come after them, and grow into the roles the firm needs next. That is the opportunity here. As we add attorneys and staff, the people who joined first are considered first for every bigger role. They also get a say in how the firm works, because much of it is still being decided.

Victoria Helgesen, Founder and Managing Attorney of Transcendens Law

Our Firm

The Person You Would Work For

The attorney you work for shapes the job more than anything else. Here is who that would be.

Victoria has led legal teams through a major data breach and sat across the table from federal regulators. On the hard days she is the calm one in the room, and that calm carries to everyone around her. She asks a lot because she gives a lot. Her standard is high, and she holds herself to it before anyone else. She is kind and formidable in equal measure, which is what you want in the person teaching you and the person in your corner.

She is committed to the people who work for her. She gives them room to own their work, backs them when it counts, and respects that they have lives outside the office. She has preschool twins at home, so that last part is not theory.

Who We Are

The Firm You Would Join

Who we work for, what we stand for, and where you will see our name.

Interesting Clients

Our clients build things: founders who started with nothing, executives running mid-sized companies across the country, families who have worked the same land for generations. You will know them by name, understand what is at stake for them, and see your own work in the result.

Work With a Purpose

We believe business should be done right. We help principled companies do it. And when a company cheats its customers or mistreats its people, we stand with the ones who were wronged. Either way, the file on your desk is somebody's livelihood, and your work helps protect it.

Reach Beyond Georgia

Victoria advises mid-sized companies across the country and works with a network of lawyers nationwide. A matter on your desk might involve a client in one state and counsel in another. The experience you build here, and the professional relationships, reach well beyond Georgia.

Name on the Court

Go to a Savannah Steel game and look at the three-point line. That is our name on it, and every made three sends our horses running around the arena. We are the premier partner of the city's first professional women's basketball team. Victoria also founded Ascend, a leadership group, and the firm is active in both local chambers of commerce. Working here makes you part of all of it.

Paralegal

Wilmington Island (Savannah), GA Full time, In Office $52,000 to $68,000
Apply

Transcendens Law is a growing Georgia firm. We represent business owners, families, and landowners in business, real estate, estate planning, and civil matters. We are looking for a right-hand person for our attorneys. An experienced paralegal we can hand a matter to and trust to run with it, working alongside the attorneys from research and drafting through filing or execution.

The work here is hands-on and substantive. We are serious about client service, and serious about our tagline, Transcending the Ordinary. Our name is on every matter, and nothing goes out the door unless we are proud of it. We take the time to know our clients so we can work as an extension of them, or the businesses they run, rather than an outside vendor they have to manage, and we need someone who treats each file the same way, writes well, keeps the details straight under pressure, and cares how the work turns out for the client.

What you will do
  • Research Georgia statutes and case law on Westlaw, and help shape case strategy.
  • Draft correspondence, pleadings, discovery, and transactional documents.
  • Prepare and respond to discovery.
  • File documents with the courts electronically and in person, and exchange documents with opposing counsel.
  • Track court deadlines and manage the firm calendar.
  • Maintain organized case files.
  • Prepare for hearings, closings, and client meetings.
  • Proofread and cite-check the attorneys' work.
What we are looking for
  • A paralegal certificate or equivalent experience.
  • At least 2 years of paralegal experience.
  • Strong legal writing.
  • A growth mindset. Someone who wants to keep learning and take on more.
  • Comfortable with practice-management software (we use MyCase), Westlaw, Microsoft Office, and PDF tools.
  • Discretion with confidential client matters.
  • Able to work under attorney supervision and take direction.
  • A notary commission, or willingness to become one.
  • A valid Georgia driver's license.
  • Background check required.

To apply: Send your resume and a short writing sample, and tell us about a time you helped move a case forward or worked hard for a client. This is an in-office position in Savannah, not remote.

Legal Administrative Assistant / Office Coordinator

Wilmington Island (Savannah), GA or Wilkes County, GA Full time, In Office $46,000 to $52,000
Apply

Transcendens Law is a growing Georgia firm. We represent business owners, families, and landowners in business, real estate, estate planning, and civil matters. We are looking for one dependable, detail-oriented person to run the front office and keep the practice organized. This is the hub of the office. You are the first voice a client hears, and the person who makes sure nothing falls through the cracks.

The work here is hands-on and it matters. We are serious about client service, and serious about our tagline, Transcending the Ordinary. Our name is on every matter, and nothing goes out the door unless we are proud of it. We take the time to know our clients so we can work as an extension of them, or the businesses they run, rather than an outside vendor they have to manage, and the person in this seat sets that tone from the first phone call. We need someone who treats every client that way, stays organized under pressure, keeps the details straight, and cares how the work turns out.

What you will do
  • Answer and route phone calls, greet walk-in clients, and make sure every visitor is taken care of.
  • Handle new client intake. Gather information, run conflict checks, open files, and send engagement letters and welcome materials.
  • Prepare and proofread correspondence, letters, and basic legal documents.
  • Manage the attorney and firm court calendars, track filing deadlines, and schedule meetings, consultations, and appointments.
  • File documents with the courts, electronically through Georgia e-filing and in person when needed, and confirm each filing.
  • Keep client and case files organized, scanned, and up to date.
  • Handle billing and invoicing. Enter time, send invoices, record payments, follow up on balances, and keep the books tidy.
  • Order and manage office supplies, and coordinate with vendors.
  • Sort and distribute mail, and respond to email and web inquiries promptly.
  • Support light marketing. Help coordinate chamber and community events, request and manage online reviews, and keep our Google profile current.
What we are looking for
  • A high school diploma or equivalent. An associate degree or paralegal certificate is a plus.
  • One to three years in a law office or a busy professional office preferred. We will train the right person.
  • Comfortable with Microsoft Office, PDF tools, and practice-management software. We use MyCase, and experience with it or a similar platform is a plus.
  • Strong attention to detail, and the ability to juggle several things at once without dropping any of them.
  • Clear, warm, professional communication in person, on the phone, and in writing.
  • Discretion with confidential client matters.
  • Reliable transportation and a valid Georgia driver's license for occasional courthouse and errand runs.
  • A notary commission, or willingness to become one. We will cover the cost.
  • Spanish is a plus, but not required.
